CD Baby Partners With Bitmunk
Yahoo: Digital Bazaar, Inc., creators of the Bitmunk file distribution network, announced yesterday that they have entered into a new partnership with CD Baby, allowing tens of thousands of musicians to create new revenue streams by distributing their music on the secure next-generation file distribution network. The best part according to the report, is that the agreement allows any CD Baby artist to distribute their digital music via the Bitmunk network while retaining the vast majority of the sales revenue. The innovative business model facilitates the sale of "used media files" that can be sold over and over again - with the artist or copyright holder always receiving a fair share. Great idea......an artist-centric approach!
David Longley, CTO of Digital Bazaar added "We will be releasing Bitmunk Sales Server software for free shortly after the public launch to enable anybody with an Internet connection to create their own online music store and sell CD Baby artist content. The best part about Bitmunk is that there is an incentive for everybody, including artists, fans, labels, Internet radio and fan-based music sites, to participate." The announcement comes a few weeks before Bitmunk's official public launch and it seems the approach will be to work with unprotected MP3 files without DRM...
