Violin Virtuoso Ringtones

Times Online: Nicola BenedettiJust to prove it's not all rap artists and moantones, violin virtuoso Nicola Benedetti is to launch a range of mobile phone ringtones to tap into the youth market. Apart from the potential profits there is a specific point to launching three ringtones (Havanaise by Camille Saint-Saëns, Méditation by Jules Massenet and Contemplation by Johannes Brahms) from the classical music album. "Young people are a particularly important target group for this album, so we really want to maximise all the techniques that we can to take the music to them," said Mark Wilkinson of her record company. "Ringtones are part of young people’s culture."

I wish them well and I think it's good they're trying to market classical music to youth. But the idea that Benedetti's classical music will appeal to youngsters more than any other classical player simply because she's 17 years old seems to me to be a fallacy, one that is repeated over and over again...
