Peer Impact Signs Agreement With EMI

Peer_impact_logo_2Yahoo: Yesterday, Wurld Media announced that its Peer Impact will offer music from EMI - the world's third largest recorded music company and in doing so, becomes the very first P2P download service supported by all four major record labels. This is definitely a milestone as the industry takes a monumental step forward in its efforts to satisfy consumer demand for legal online musical choice and convenience. Wurld is also positioning itself with indie content and micropayment capabilities with recent deals with Orchard and Peppercoin...

Currently still in beta, Peer Impact may have a strategic advantage when it launches with "a huge catalogue of pristine industry inventory, not filtered or commingled with unprotected content, spyware, viruses or pornography." The question then is how long can it stay ahead of the pack before its busines model and catalogue is duplicated? Consumers form the backbone of the fulfillment aspect with members simply leaving their computers on...if they are used as a source for fulfillment, they are then given credit for the sale and can use it towards future purchases...

"EMI Music is happy to be delivering its catalog of music to consumers via Peer Impact -- the first of what we hope will be many legitimized P2P services," said Ted Cohen, senior vice president, Digital Development & Distribution at EMI Music. "This service will show that the legal exchange of copyrighted works and a good consumer experience can go hand-in-hand."
