Are You A "Sideline Ho"?

Monica_1The Internet is abuzz about Monica's song "Sideline Ho," a track from her forthcoming album "The Makings of Me." Some of the lyrics go: "If your man doesn't take you to church and leaves you alone on the holidays, you're a sideline ho." Monica tells Billboard.com that the song (co-produced by Tank) is based on a true story about a cheating ex. "It’s about a situation that I was in a long time ago but I think whenever you've been cheated on you don't forget it," she says. "You can remember certain details instantaneously. If you just think about the person you remember all the details and everything you felt."

The concept of the song, which will likely be a third single she says, came up while she was brainstorming ideas with several producers and songwriters, including Tank ("Maybe I Deserve"). "I told him I had a poem where I would always refer to her as a 'sideline ho,'" says Monica. "I never used her name and he asked me why. I said the sound of her name just irks me so I gave her a name myself and he thought it was funny. I never would've thought he would come back in the room, like 'that's the title of the song.' So I gave him play by play details, different things that really stood out in my mind and they created a song around it."

Unfortunately, "Sideline Ho" isn't officially (read: legally) available to hear. Monica's first single is "Everytime Tha Beat Drop" featuring Dem Franchize Boyz.
