The Best Thing Ever

Nyet35101041729bigJaded Insider finally fired up the DVR last night, anxiously curious about VH1's "The (White) Rapper Show." After careful consideration, here are some initial observations:

• MC Serch is somehow billed as a "hip-hop icon" and not a "one-hit wonder." But he seems really nice and like a guy Jaded Insider would totally love to hang out with.

• We changed our mind about hanging out with MC Serch at the end of episode one. Like a lot of reality shows, this one involves an elimination, and Serch says (a la Donald Trump) "STEP OFF" in announcing your ill-fated fate. He seemed to get really mad, just because Dasit was "keeping it real."

• Early on, our money is on Misfit -- the Lady Sovereign / Lily Allen chick from the U.K. (and Brooklyn!) to win the "100-G's". We think this, not because she's good, but because everyone else is very not good and also not fun to look at. Note: the prize is a hundred thousand dollars, which we are guessing will help with a down payment for a bed in "The Surreal Life 17."

• The dark horse could possibly be 100-Proof, the dude with a Mohawk from Texas. He's slightly endearing, and boasts about being drunk all the time. You can't make this up.

• It seems that G-Child, the little Avril Lavigne-looking girl from Allentown, Pa., could be the most fun to watch, simply because she's as sad as the day she was probably fired from Cracker Barrel. She loves her some Vanilla Ice, and has even penned a track called "Hell Yeah." The awesomeness is located here.

• It's hard to discern how much of this is contrived. Parts seem very scripted (hey, we just happened to stumble upon Grandmaster Flash's house!?) but others seem so absurd that no one person could have dreamt them up in a writing session. John Brown's stance on how he is "not a rapper" but a "brand" and "entity" is pure gold.

• Prince Paul helped out in the selection process, but that's it? Unless you're hightailing it over to Dan the Automator's house, you best be back on.
