Major Labels Open Vaults to DJ's
Reuters: As the major record labels ironically cozy up to P2P players after scorning the technology for years, some of the world's most revered labels (including Motown, Atlantic and Verve) are also opening up their recorded music vaults to DJ's "in the hopes that a new generation of listeners will be attracted to remixed versions of classic tunes." Sounds like a great idea, but I wonder how realistic and affordable the sampling licenses will be since they'll be competing with Creative Commons and free content on P2P ...
DJ Dangermouse's highly controversial 'The Grey Album,' which mixed The Beatles' 'White Album' with rapper Jay-Z's "Black Album," is widely credited with bringing mashups to the forefront of the music scene and major music companies are beginning to change their tune "as they seek to extract maximum value from their libraries and to combat the unauthorized mash-ups that have become increasingly popular..."
