God's Way Of Playing A Trick

Dwight Yoakam hosted a tribute to his friend the late Buck Owens during the April 10 CMT Music Awards. While Owens was a little out of the audience's demo range, Yoakam said backstage, “It speaks well of CMT that they would allow Buck that moment and his memory that moment in front of their current audience.” He called Owens “one of the most profound pioneers of modern honky tonk music.”

Asked what he learned from the man who established the Bakersfield sound, Yoakam responded “That two very disparate people can become friends. Its God’s way of playing a trick on you sometimes.”
