Bumbershoot: Of Montreal Goes Crazy

Of_montreal_jumpAt 7:30 p.m. arrives the first big conflict of interest: Deerhoof, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Of Montreal and the Can't See are all set to start playing within a half-hour of each other. Multi-venue festivals are almost always prone to conflicts like this, but today the decision seems particularly difficult. Prior show-going experience suggests I see Of Montreal, having never seen them before, and the call pays off. Kevin Barnes et al. execute a superb live set, capping it off with a cover of Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy." This leaves time to catch Jones and the Dap-Kings' finale before hitting the Blood Brothers' set on the other side of Seattle Center. Past a doorway with signs that read: "No Moshing, Please," Blood Brothers fired out an impressive set to a largely under-age crowd. Aforementioned signs were not heeded, and I decided to leave before I felt too old. There are still two days of Bumbershoot to go, anyway.
