Cat Power To Other People
The wheels are always spinning in the mind of Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, even when things sometimes slow those suckers down.
That being said, it didn't surprise us when the Matador artist recently mentioned she'd like to tackle another covers set, a feat she accomplished with 2000's none-too-obviously titled "The Covers Record." While the previous buffett consisted of titles from Lou Reed, the Stones and Dylan, Marshall's hoping to go old-school with track from James Brown, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Mary J. Blige, the Hot Boys and Hank Williams.
According to the artist, she'll start laying down the groundwork in January in Mexico City.
"She is planning that, but in typical Chan fashion she's a little ahead of herself," explained a Matador spokesperson. "[She] will be previewing some tracks during her set at [next weekend's] Vegoose [festival in Las Vegas]"
Who else may she be dragging into the act in while there?
"There’s this song actually with Jack White that I'd like to do -- it’s like a spin off on Ray Charles and 'It’s True That We Love One Another,'" Marshall tells Jaded Insider. "But I still haven’t gotten confirmation about [adding White to the song]. But I’d love it if we could do a little duet."
But what songs, exactly, will one hear at the festival?
"You’ll see," she says.
"But I won't be there."
"Why?"
"Because I'm broke."
"Why don’t you get Billboard [to pay], Miss Fancy Pants?"
It was then that we laughed and laughed.
