Leroi Moore: 1961-2008

Dmb Billboard was saddened to learn tonight that Dave Matthews Band saxophonist Leroi Moore died in Los Angeles from injuries suffered in a June ATV accident.

On a personal note, this writer was awfully fond of DMB for a period in the mid-1990s, during which I had the privilege of meeting Leroi a couple of times. I can attest that he was an extremely friendly guy who seemed to love nothing more than playing music every night with his best friends. DMB continues to reach new audiences some 15 years after first exploding out of Charlottesville, and Leroi's sax work is a big reason why, particularly on songs like "Seek Up," "One Sweet World" and "#41." Our thoughts are with the DMB organization and Moore's family. -- Jonathan Cohen

Back in 1995, I met LeRoi behind the stadium at their San Diego show and after a short conversation I explained that I didn't have tickets to the show and he in a blink arranged to have two tickets at Will Call for us. Although it was a short conversation it was deep in the heart and I could get the sense of a grand man a humble and appreciative heart for all the goodness that he was yet to experience. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the rest of the band.

LeRoi, your sweet sounds will always be in my heart and soul everyday that I listen and play music... until I join you someday.
