Idol Worship: Week 5 News Recap

So much news this week, what with the Grammy Awards in town, the American Idol Experience opening at Disney World, and Joanna Pacitti's unexpected departure from the Top 36. Our vital Idol recap...

Clive Davis and Kelly Clarkson: together again...
Kelly Clarkson performed her new single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party on February 6. She joined an all-star lineup that included Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart, fellow Idol alum Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston. Kelly also belted a cover of Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart," by special request from Clive. Looks like all that My December drama is finally behind them. [LA Times' Pop & Hiss]

Idols make their presence known at the Grammys... Jennifer Hudson and Carrie Underwood were Grammy winners, while other ex-Idol contestants simply came along for the party ride (we're looking at you, Chris Daughtry). As for the judges? Paula Abdul turned heads with her red carpet number (not in a good way), while Kara Dioguardi fared much better in the fashion department. [americanidol.com, E! Online]

Orlando feels full-on Idol frenzy... Walt Disney World's American Idol Experience opened with a bang on February 12. All seven Idol winners made their way to Orlando for the festivities (appearing on stage together for the first time), along with Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul, and a slew of ex-contestants including Bo Bice, Carly Smithson, Mandisa, Josh Gracin and Jason Castro. Are we sad we didn't go? Absolutely. We would've killed to see David Cook and Carrie Underwood duet on Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." [USA Today's Idol Chatter]

Blake Lewis teams with Tommy Boy... Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis has signed with Tommy Boy Records and plans to have an album out in April. He tells us his sights are set on getting Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard to guest on the record. Who knew Blake had indie-rock cred? [Billboard]

Carrie Underwood accolades continue... Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood is the only female nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards. She's also up for Top Female Vocalist and Video of the Year. Next up: world domination. [Academy of Country Music]

David Archuleta crushed on iCarly... Last season's runner-up made his acting debut on Nickelodeon's iCarly as part of the network's "Crush" night. Miranda Cosgrove, star of iCarly and our favorite School of Rocker, says Archie "was a natural." See the rerun on February 15. [nick.com]

Let the Pacitti pity party begin... Joanna Pacitti is deemed ineligible to compete on season 8, despite making the Top 36. The judges are torn on the matter, as is public opinion, but replacement Felicia Barton is thrilled. [Billboard, MJ's

A vocal path.

You live
near a vocal
path, and always
a young bird
returns in your
head like a
beautiful song
in the light
of a white dream...
