Crowded House / Liam Finn / 16 Frames - Humphrey's by the Bay - San Diego - 8/24/07
Friday night found me back at Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay for another great outdoor show in perfect San Diego weather. This time it was for Crowed House. A buddy had an extra ticket and I just couldn't turn down the show.
Crowded House is the pop band formed in the mid 80's and led by New Zealand musician and singer-songwriter Neil Finn. And after a lot of changes and having to overcome the suicide of the original drummer Paul Hester, Crowed House has reunited to tour this summer. The current lineup is Liam Finn, Mark Hart, Neil Finn, Matt Sherrod and Nick Seymour.
The show started with a pretty good set by 16 Frames. 16 Frames is the creation of frontman and songwriter Steve Sulikowski. 16 Frames was recently signed to Arista Records.
Then it was time for a short set by Liam Finn. Now there is something that you should know about Humphrey's. It sits next to a marina and there are a group of folks who paddle their small boats over to the venue. Liam opened his set by promising to buy four beers for anyone who would jump into the water. Sadly there were no takers. Liam plays guitar and drums.... at the same time.
After his set, it was time for Crowded House, at the fans were ready.
The show was a combination of straight up rock and roll, pop songs from the 80's and a great amount of interaction between the band and the fans. Between hits like "Don't Dream It's Over", "Something So Strong", "Better Be Home Soon", "Fall at Your Feet" and "Weather With You", Neil had the crowd singing along with a variety of choruses.
Then the band ran up against the 10:30pm curfew. As a fan close to the stage said, and was repeated by Neil, "Fuck the Curfew'. But the band didn't, and the show came to a close promptly at 10:31.
Alan, you rock! This is the next best thing to being there (and I wish I was but glad you got to go). These are fantastic pics. I'm going to forward the info. to my friend Glenn in BC who is also a big Finn Fan (Crowded House) so he can check out your handywork. Again, kudos on these pics. I'm now going to check out your other postings. Thank you!
