Ari Gold @ Joe's Pub - 9/4, NYC
ENTOURAGE! Ok, you know I had to make that reference. Once again, I got to head down to Joe's Pub to check out Ari Gold's CD Release party. Woohoo. The place was packed so I found a place at the bar to enjoy the show from. To be honest, I had no idea what to make of the show when I got there. They were setting up a few stands for his backup singers. They were both wearing masquerade-ish masks. Throw in the guitarist, drums and saxaphone. It was crowded up there. Actually, I think there was a keyboardist, too.
Anyway, Ari came out shortly after they finished setting up. He is a great entertainer. At one point, he went to the other side of the bar to sing a song. And after returning to the stage to do an acoustic song, he returned to the middle partition separating the bar area from the table seating.
He sang another while holding his mom's hand. Ok, that sounds a lot more cheesy than it actually was. It was actually really cute. Both his parents were there and he made it a point to than them (multiple times). You could tell he was really happy to be having his release party in NY (his hometown).
Anyway, I really enjoyed the show. The rest of the audience seemed to enjoy it as well. I think I'm going to check out his next show in Oct.
