I'm 20 years old and a communications major at Citrus College in Glendora, California now, but when I was 14, I remember completely shunning any band or artist that wasn't considered 'cool.' That's one thing I totally regret. I forced myself to hide the fact that I did enjoy pop, hip-hop and 'old people' music. It wasn't until I was around 17 that I learned that sometimes what's popular just might suck and that you need to embrace the music that you love, not the music that your friends tell you to listen to. So what if I love Britney Spears, Duran Duran and John Mayer? Actually liking what I like didn't make others give me less credit or make me less cool, it let people know I had an open mind. Who else can say they saw Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy, Over It, Phantom Planet and Kelly Clarkson shows all in the span of ten days? And let me tell you, those were 10 awesome days.
