Copeland at the Masquerade, Atlanta, 9/1/2007

Copeland came to Atlanta on Tour with The Rentals, and it was pretty clear that most of the audience was there for Copeland. This was yet another band I’d waited far too long to see, and I was excited I finally got the chance to. The Masquerade is a small club, with a fairly standard sound and lighting set up. There’s no flashy gimmicks here, but this is arguably the most intimate venue in Atlanta. I’ve seen some of my favorite performances at this place.  While this is a great place to see a show, it's a horrible place to take pictures.  My "Photo Access" got me into the venue, but not much else, since there was nowhere to get up close and take pictures.  Not to mention the lighting here is incredibly sub par, I struggled to get anything resembling a real shot.

Jesse Lacey and Kevin Devine at Smith's Olde Bar, Atlanta, August 2, 2007

The show was a few days ago, but it has taken that long for the sheer brilliance of the performance to sink into me, and now I can finally write about it.

Jesse Lacey is one enigmatic character, and I think he enjoys being thought of as so.  Known for his role as the frontman of Brand New, Jesse has embarked on an acoustic tour with buddy and fellow singer/songwriter Kevin Devine.  Brand New has already achieved epic proportions in regards to the current "scene," so being able to see Jesse perform in a 250 person club was nearly beyond my comprehension.

Bleeding Through/Slayer/Marilyn Manson in Atlanta, July 28 Hifi Buys Ampitheatre

I'll start off by apologizing for the lack of pictures in this review.  The staff at Hifi Buys Ampitheatre obviously has no clue what they are doing, and after 25 minutes at Will Call, and 30 minutes of walking around the actual venue to try to find the person with my photo pass, I felt it was time to retire for the evening, sadly without any pictures of the show.  Hopefully something can be sorted out as this is the second time the "professionals" at this venue have let me down.

Anyhow, big props to Bleeding Through for getting me the hookup and into this show.  I would have loved to get some shots of them, but instead I had to listen to their set from the Will Call booth, and from the outer edges of the venue.  If you had to pick a band to open for Marilyn Manson and Slayer, this is the band to do it.  These guys are intense, to say the least.  They put on a really strong set, and I would have to say that the drumming was my favorite part of their act.  The beats were great, and the double bass was absolutely killer.  The crowd was pretty into these guys as far as I could tell.  If you're into heavy metal or just want something to listen to while you crash cars or demolish bulidings, check them out.

Silverchair at The Roxy, Atlanta, 7/23/07

The return of Silverchair to Atlanta was a sight to behold.  On the heels of their first tour in North America in eight years, the boys from Australia gave the crowd one absolute hell of a time.  Personally, this was a pretty big deal for me.  I've listened to these guys since I was a kid, and Neon Ballroom is one of my favorite albums of all time. To say that I was excited to finally see this band play would be quite the understatement.

Warped Tour HOTlanta! - Hifi Buys Ampitheatre Atlanta, GA 7-18

Ohhh, Warped Tour.  The time of year when all the hottest emo/punk/scene/hxc/screamo/wtfever bands travel the nation putting on a rock spectacle. From what I observed today, it is also the time of the year when scantily clad teenagers and many unsupervised children roam free, spending their parent’s money and leaving havoc in their wake.  Sadly I wasn't able to upload the best pictures I took, as the file resolution was too high and attempting to upload them to this blog more than likely would have crashed the internet.  Maybe I can fix it later.  But anyways, bear with me, there's a lot to cover...
